FAQ

What is the SurfaceCleaner-100?

The SurfaceCleaner-100 is a permanently wall-mounted system connected to a water supply (tap) that produces a cleaning solution called SC water using electrolysis.

SC water is produced on demand within seconds and can then be dispensed directly and immediately via a dispensing gun, similar to a fuel pump.

How large is the SurfaceCleaner-100?

The SurfaceCleaner-100 is wall-mounted and has dimensions of L/W/H 400/220/550 mm.
The water softener, which is connected to the SurfaceCleaner-100 via 1.5 m long flexible hoses, has dimensions of L/W/H 320/520/670 mm and is floor-standing.

Where can the SurfaceCleaner-100 be installed?

The SurfaceCleaner-100 can be installed in any room with a stable wall, a flat and solid floor, a tap water connection, a power supply, a water drain and good ventilation.

Does the SurfaceCleaner-100 require a special power connection?

No. The SurfaceCleaner-100 is plugged into a standard 230 VAC socket and does not require a special power connection.

Which consumables does the SurfaceCleaner-100 require?

The SurfaceCleaner-100 must be connected and commissioned by a technician during installation. In daily operation, the SurfaceCleaner-100 does not require any special consumables - only tap water, salt and electrical energy.
Depending on the amount of SC water produced, the salt level in the water softener simply needs to be checked and refilled if necessary.

How often does the SurfaceCleaner-100 need to be serviced?

The SurfaceCleaner-100 contains no components that are subject to rapid wear and therefore require frequent replacement or servicing.
However, regular inspections at intervals of approximately 6–12 months are recommended. Consultation with the respective distributor or directly with pro aqua Diamantelektroden Produktion GmbH is advised.

What is SC water?

SC water produced by the SurfaceCleaner-100 is a cleaning solution with an oxidant content of 100 mg/L and a pH value of 8.5. The oxidizing agents enhance cleaning performance by attacking organic contaminants on surfaces and, supported by the pH value of 8.5, loosening them so they can be easily wiped away.
When stored correctly (in a dark and cool place), SC water remains effective for at least 5 weeks without any loss of performance.

How is SC water produced?

Conventional tap water is passed through a specially modified water softener, where it is descaled. The softened water is then enriched with salt in the main unit – the SurfaceCleaner-100 – and subsequently undergoes electrolysis using boron-doped diamond electrodes. This process produces a cleaning solution known as SC water.
The process starts as soon as the SurfaceCleaner-100 is switched on (“on demand”). Exactly as much SC water as needed can be produced and dispensed into containers using the dispensing gun.

Do you need special containers or vessels for SC water?

No. SC water can be filled into any standard container or vessel used for cleaning agents, such as spray bottles, buckets, floor cleaning machines, canisters and more.
SC water is suitable for cleaning in industrial, private and public environments.

How long can filled SC water be used?

It is recommended to produce only as much SC water as needed for upcoming cleaning tasks.
In general, SC water remains effective for at least 5 weeks when stored in a cool environment and protected from direct sunlight without any loss of performance.
If too much SC water has been produced or is no longer required, it can be safely disposed of via the wastewater system.

Has the cleaning performance of SC water been proven?

Yes. The cleaning performance of SC water has been confirmed using ATP measurements, which are widely used in the food industry to assess surface cleanliness.
SC water has undergone extensive practical testing in care homes, universities and hotels, and was compared with standard cleaning agents using ATP measurements. In none of the tests performed was SC water inferior to conventional cleaning agents; on the contrary, in almost every test it performed many times better than standard products.
The SurfaceCleaner-100 meets the normative requirements of EN 1276 and EN 14476.

Do any additional chemical cleaning agents need to be added to SC water?

No. SC water produced by the SurfaceCleaner-100 cleans without the addition of any other cleaning chemicals.
SC water is free from foaming agents, fragrances, colorants, phosphates, surfactants, alcohol or other environmentally or health-damaging additives.
However, SC water must not be mixed with acids.

When is SC water NOT suitable?

SC water cannot be used as a descaling agent, as it is in the alkaline range (pH 8.5). Heavy grease layers, such as those found in fish and meat processing or in frying and deep-frying areas of industrial kitchens, also cannot be removed using SC water.

Which surfaces can be cleaned with SC water?

SC water produced by the SurfaceCleaner-100 is suitable for cleaning all smooth, solid, non-porous surfaces such as floors, glass, walls, machines, handles, holders, railings, buttons, handrails, sanitary facilities, fittings, work surfaces, workbenches and much more.
It is suitable for all materials including glass, laminate, plastic, ceramic, stainless steel, aluminum, PVC, wood, natural stone, rubber and painted surfaces, and has even been tested on marble.

For safety and when working with sensitive surfaces, we recommend performing a spot test on an inconspicuous area before large-scale application, as with any conventional cleaning agent.

Does used, soiled SC water need to be disposed of in a special way?

No. Used SC water from the SurfaceCleaner-100 can be disposed of at any time via the wastewater system. No special regulations need to be observed and no additional measures are required.

Is SC water hazardous for users?

No. Handling SC water produced by the SurfaceCleaner-100 is not hazardous. As with any cleaning agent, SC water should not come into contact with the eyes and must not be used as drinking water.
For prolonged use, wearing appropriate work clothing, such as gloves, is recommended.

Does operating staff require special training?

No. Users of the SurfaceCleaner-100 do not require special training. However, a brief introduction is recommended so they know how to put the SurfaceCleaner-100 into operation using the following four steps:

  1. Turn on the water tap

  2. Switch on the main power switch

  3. Press the START button

  4. Press the dispensing gun and, for example, fill a spray bottle

Can SC water be mixed with acidic cleaning agents?

No. Mixing SC water with acidic cleaners must be avoided. SC water is alkaline with a pH value of 8.5. Acidic cleaners shift the pH into the acidic range (pH < 7); below a pH of 5, chlorine gas can be released.

How much does one liter of SC water cost?

The cost per liter of SC water depends primarily on whether the SurfaceCleaner-100 is purchased or rented. Water, salt, and energy costs are negligible. In any case, even with infrequent use, the cost per liter is well below €1. Please contact us for a calculation tailored to your specific application.
